Social media quakes with celeb reactions to early tremor
Los Angeles' 3.85 million residents received a pretty rude awakening this morning. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, at 6:25 a.m. a 4.4 magnitude earthquake based out of Westwood, California, rocked everyone out of bed. With a little luck o' the Irish, no major damage or injuries have been reported, but that doesn't mean people weren't shakin' in their leprechaun boots. Everyone from Susan Sarandon to Lindsay Lohan were affected by Mother Nature, and we have their posts on Twitter and Instagram to prove it.
Be prepared for an earthquake >>
Jimmy Kimmel, who is expecting his second child with wife Molly McNearney, didn't necessarily seem frightened by the tremor, only annoyed by the Twitter storm he (correctly) predicted would follow.
here's how it goes now..."oh my God, earthquake...where's my phone? I have to tweet!"
— Jimmy Kimmel (@jimmykimmel) March 17, 2014
Lindsay Lohan was so scared and longing to be held by Mama Oprah. She still managed to snap this cool Instagram pic that looks alarmingly similar to Pink Floyd cover art.
Sarah Hyland of Modern Family was certainly freaked out, as was her dog Barkley.
That was a very scary earthquake. Barkley won't come out from under the bed :(
— Sarah Hyland (@Sarah_Hyland) March 17, 2014
Ariana Grande felt the jostle, but she was convinced it was something other than Mother Nature. "Why was my initial reaction to this earthquake 'holy s*** it's the aliens I'm screwed'?" the songstress tweeted. She also, as usual, tweeted loving concern for her loyal fans.
that was by far the worst one I've ever felt. everybody ok?
— Ariana Grande (@ArianaGrande) March 17, 2014
Paris Hilton awoke from one nightmare to another and tweeted about it.
OMG! Did anyone just feel that Earthquake? So scary, woke me up out of an already scary nightmare. I hate earthquakes. :(
— Paris Hilton (@ParisHilton) March 17, 2014
There were at least a couple celebs who remained resourceful and productive. Ali Fedotowsky took the opportunity to get her cardio in.
An earthquake just shook me awake. I jumped out of bed with my pup and ran outside. It was so scary!! It was the biggest one I've ever felt!
— Ali Fedotowsky (@AliFedotowsky) March 17, 2014
And Susan Sarandon proved you can't keep a good mom down when her son-in-law, Kyle Martino, posted a photo of Sarandon washing her pregnant daughter's hair in the sink because the earthquake knocked out the gas. "I can't work without clean hair! Thanks mom," Eva Amurri Martino (@4evamartino) commented on the pic. We know this family is gonna stick together through the apocalypse.
What were your favorite celeb reactions to the earthquake? Do you live in Los Angeles? Did you feel the "Shamrock Shake?"
Friday's Fashion Obsessions: Emma Stone and Sarah Hyland
Emma Stone
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 hits theaters today and we're a wee bit excited to watch real-life couple Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield's onscreen chemistry. Emma has been on a whirlwind fashion parade promoting the film and her latest couture choice has us going weak in the knees.
To fete the New York City premiere of the film, Emma stepped out in a flowing nude gown featuring embellished detail at the top. We know what you're thinking: a nude gown on a fair-skinned beauty like Emma? For years, pale gals have been told to use nudes, creams and whites sparingly in their style for fear of being washed out, but Emma easily disproved that theory here. The delicate detailing on her gown lends a touch of color to the gown and draws the attention upwards to Emma's signature red locks and her pretty pop of color pout. Side cutouts also add an extra touch of sexy to the otherwise modest gown.
The final verdict? Emma showed off her newly cropped bangs and subtle highlights, wearing her locks in beachy waves. The casual 'do looked totally appropriate against the beautiful but fairly simple gown and was the perfect finishing touch to a killer red carpet look.

Sarah Hyland
When you think about crop tops, the word classy doesn't usually come to mind, but Sarah Hyland showed us they have some chic potential this week while making a very fashionable TV appearance in New York City.
Once reserved for toned teens and music festivals, the crop top has gone mainstream (much to many women's dismay) and it seems it's here to stay — at least through summer. So we'd like to thank Sarah for showing us a seasonally appropriate way to rock crop tops while the weather warms up a bit. See that sliver of midriff? That's just the right amount of skin to show if you want to class up a crop top, ladies. High-waisted, loose-fitting white trousers and an unbuttoned blazer provide a touch of sophistication and bold blue cutout pumps insert a touch of sass into the overall ensemble.
The final verdict? Sure, midriff isn't acceptable at the office — seriously, don't even try to push the boundaries — but that doesn't mean you can't have some fun classing up crop tops in your downtime. This is one look we're definitely warming up to.

EXCLUSIVE: Modern Family's Sarah Hyland on the finale's gasp-worthy moments & unanswered questions
Just hours before the Modern Family season finale, SheKnows chatted with breakout star, Sarah Hyland, about what we can expect from tonight's episode and, in particular, Cam and Mitchell's big day. Will the wedding go off without a hitch? It doesn't sound like it. However, Hyland thinks there's an important lesson to be learned tonight.
7 Things Modern Family taught us about parenting >>
"I can't say who, but there will definitely be a gasp," Hyland said of the episode, when we asked if we should expect any unresolved issues when the show closes.
Gasps or not, it's still a wedding episode and Hyland promised we'll get all the sweetness and romance that comes with such an occasion.
"It's a beautiful episode," said Hyland. "I think everybody — and when I say everybody, I really mean everybody — will really love it. It's beautiful. It's progressive."
Modern Family is certainly progressive. While it continues to have a large and loving fan base, there are plenty of naysayers in America who are less than on board with the show. As Hyland pointed out, nothing about Cam and Mitch's relationship should be controversial. Sadly, though, it is. Hyland thinks the writers handle the situations well. Modern Family has mastered the art of being progressive without being controversial.
Nolan Gould swears Julie Bowen is insane >>
"I think the greatest part about our show is that it's very progressive without us trying to be," Hyland began. "We're just portraying something that would happen in these people's lives. And our writers decided that Cam and Mitch wouldn't get married until it was legal in California because that's how it would be for them."
Added to the realness of the show is the fact that so many lifestyles and viewpoints are observed and given a voice. Yes, there is a gay couple. But, obviously, heterosexual couples still exist, as well, and Modern Family represents those, too.
"The greatest thing about it is that you have everybody's point of views," explained Hyland. "So the people who are apprehensive about gay marriage, they have Jay on the show, who asks the questions that they would ask and to kind of represent them not in an extreme way, but at least the confused, close-mindedness."
Where will Jay stand by the end of this very special wedding episode? There's only one way to find out. Modern Family's season finale airs at 9/8c on ABC.
INTERVIEW: Sarah Hyland and Turbo FAST pay homage to Gossip Girl
SheKnows recently caught up with Modern Family star, Sarah Hyland, and chatted with her about all things animated, including her work on Turbo FAST and her love of DreamWorks. The super-talented and sweet star had plenty to share, especially about her excitement over her role in Turbo FAST, where she's voicing Gossip Snail.
Sarah Hyland on Modern Family's gasp-worthy finale >>
"I'm a huge fan of DreamWorks," Hyland shared when we asked her why she signed on to the show. "And the movie Turbo itself was really good. So, when I heard about it I was like, 'Yes. I don't even know who I'm playing, but yes.'"
That "yes" turned out to be especially fun for Hyland, as she's playing the cartoon version of Gossip Girl, an old high-school favorite.
"I found out I would be playing Gossip Snail, which is a form of Gossip Girl pretty much," Hyland explained. "So I thought that that would be fun because me and my friends in high school would always have the joke of, 'XOXO, Gossip Girl.'"
A snail version of Gossip Girl? Sounds pretty awesome to us. The star shared a little more about the show and her character, who unbeknownst to her actually helps stop a robbery in progress. Even the original Gossip Girl never managed something like that.
Yikes! Sarah Hyland gets groped by a fan >>
"There are these two robber snails who go into the camp to rob it, but Gossip Snail comes on and they get distracted," said Hyland. "So, they end up watching Gossip Snail and I play Gossip Snail's voice. So, I play the voice that they're watching and it's an homage to Gossip Girl kind of. She says, 'Hugs and kisses, Gossip Snail.' And it's got the whole drama factor to it. So, it was a lot of fun to play because I got to play a voice of something that I watched as a teenager."
As excited as we are for the episode, we thought Turbo FAST might need a little bit of selling, as it's an animated kids series. However, Hyland assured us that the show caters to everyone, from kids to even former Gossip Girl fans.
"I think it's really funny," Hyland shared. "It's kid-friendly, but it also has jokes I think parents and adults will find funny. DreamWorks always has a great sense of playing to all ages and I think that's what's really great about it."
Now that Hyland has done voice acting and onscreen acting, we couldn't help but ask whether she ended up liking the chance to do voice acting. After all, the two are fairly different and a lot of actors complain about the isolation when in the studio. For the laid-back actress, the time spent off-camera is actually kind of nice.
"You get to come in with no makeup on," Hyland teased. "That is a really big thing, actually. You don't have to come in two hours early to go through hair and makeup and wardrobe. And you really get to just concentrate and focus on the acting of it and just make sure that it's portrayed through your voice, which I really love."
Turbo FAST isn't the only animation Hyland gets behind. She loved Shrek and even took part in the Shrek: The Musical workshop when she was younger. Lately, though, she's been obsessed with Frozen. She shared that she's super excited for the Broadway musical to happen and can't wait to see what new Disney magic they can bring to the stage. However, when we asked her if she'd ever want to be a part of the show, she was hesitant to answer for fear of jinxing something.
We also know Hyland loves to sing and couldn't help asking if an album might be in her future.
"I'm not coming out with an album or anything. I'm an actress first and foremost," Hyland said. "I did a lot of musical theater when I lived in New York. It's hard to do that out here in L.A. because there's not much of it. So, I still sing in my car and shower. I love singing, it's a huge part of my life. But, I'm definitely not going to be coming out with my own album or anything."
So, an album is out of the question, but it definitely sounds like Hyland might be ready for some more animated roles. We can't wait to see what's next for Hyland and to finally witness her voice work in Turbo FAST. Her specific episode titled "Home on our Own" doesn't come out until next year – talk about suspense – but a new batch of episodes will premiere tomorrow, so be sure to check them out.

Modern Family star Sarah Hyland and her longtime beau split
The Modern Family star appeared at the 2014 Primetime Emmy Awards without a date on Monday night and it has now been reported that she and her beau apparently decided to call time on their relationship because it just wasn't working, Us Weekly reports.
Sarah Hyland rocks a crop top to the Emmys >>
"Sarah's doing fine. It didn't work out," a source revealed to the mag. "She's young. They decided they would be better off as friends."
And although the beauty was dateless to the 2014 Emmys, she and her Modern Family family had plenty to celebrate because the show took home the gong for Outstanding Comedy Series again.
Hyland and Prokop first began their relationship after meeting at an audition for High School Musical 3: Senior Year in 2008. And things looked to be pretty serious at one point, because they lived together and shared an adorable pet dog, Barkley Bixby.

In fact, the former couple often looked loved up when spotted out together and there was much speculation as to when an engagement would occur. The Geek Charming actress even gushed about her man during an interview with E! News, referring to herself as "practically married," to Prokop and saying, "We have a dog and live together, so I'm OK with that."
Oh, well, at least Hyland still looks happy, as she was all smiles on the night of the Emmys and she stunned in a Christian Siriano crop-top-and-full-skirt combo.
